Understanding the mind and interests of people suffering from dementia

A loved one is suffering from dementia, and as I care for this loved one, I am continually trying to figure out what makes her happy and healthy. As I work with this person, my goal is good living and a smile on her face.

For example yesterday when we spent the day together, I planned a number of activities. Some were great health supports--that was good. Yet, some events that I thought would bring a smile, brought a grimace instead. Why? I kept thinking about that. Then finally at the end of the day, I got a big smile. The act was simple--a colorful meal, a well-set table, and the best company of all--her husband. The smile was genuine. I left satisfied.
