Vision revision

A friend gave a supportive chuckle when I explained my thwarted vision related to a recent endeavor. She then labeled me a diehard optimist--one who sees the bright side without considering all the related people and process details. Yes, that's me, and with it comes both positive and not-so-positive results.

So as I think of that conversation and the vision unmet, I'm ready for a vision revision--hopefully I'll approach this next vision with greater focus on the people and process rather than the vision alone. What do I need to do.

Recognize the roles, interests, and vision of the people involved

There's a wide range of people involved, and each brings their own strengths and limitatiosn to the table. I am one of those people, and I bring my own strengths and limitations to the table.

Consider the process

The past process was ineffective in many ways. Now I will consider the process steps with greater attenetion and observation. Listening and observing are key actions in this regard.

Understand my role

I originally misjudged my role in this situation, so now I have to reconsider my role with respect to the people, process, and vision.

Remain openminded

All along the way, I have to be openminded to the many paths this project may take and be willing to revise process, role, and vision as needed.

With regard to a second project I'm involved in, the situation will take a different route. This project has not met with any grave challenge yet--the project is in process. What do I need to do?

As with the project above, I have to clearly outline my vision. Then I have to consider the process, people, and my role with respect to achieving that vision.

This is a simpler project so it will be a good project to practice this new approach with.

I have always enjoyed project work of any kind. I also truly love what a good collaborative team can achieve when they take the time to share their ideas, maximize strengths, minimize challenges, and work to create, revise as needed, and achieve a common vision that holds promise and potential for people's lives.

The challenge for me is how to best work on teams like this and how to thoughtfully and sensitively make good vision and ideas become reality. Onward.
