Living with hurt

The longer you live, the greater potential that you will have to live with some hurt. Hurt can happen for all kinds of reasons including lost loved ones, lost relationships, unfortunate unexpected events, and goals not met.

Even when we do all we can to avoid hurt, hurt happens, and in some cases, we simply have to live with that hurt.

How do you live with hurt?

First, you have to do all you can to try to avoid and amend any hurts that occur. This effort will result, at times, in mitigation of hurtful experiences and feelings.

Next, if you do all you can, and the hurt persists, then you have to learn to live with it by simply acknowledging that you wish the hurt never occurred, you did all you could to try to mitigate the hurt, and now you simply have to live with it until time heals the pain or new wisdom informs your actions.

We can also gain strength from thinking about past hurts that were mended over time--those examples can give us strength with current hurt.

Hurt is a human experience most, if not all, of us experience, and learning to lessen the blow of hurt or live with it is an important life lesson. Onward.
