Father's Day 2021

I got up early this morning to prepare the Father's Day lunch of corn-on-the-cob, coleslaw, potato salad, slow cooker ribs, corn bread, and fruit salad--it is a colorful array that hopefully will taste as good as it looks.

I was a bit daunted by the preparations yesterday, but as always, if I do the work in the early morning hours when the house is quiet and my mind is fresh, I do the work the well.

Dad, Mom, Me

Fathers and those people who play the father-role for us serve an important role in our lives. As I think about the celebration today--a celebration with at least three dads there, I am thinking of all the good days these dads have made possible for their children. For myself, as I've written about time and again, my dad introduced me to adventures in nature such as hiking, boating, skiing, and swimming--we had so many good times in the outdoors. Dad is often available for some good consultation; he loves a party, and more than anything, he enjoys being surrounded by his closest relatives. Dad can offer a good challenge from time to time too--the kind of challenge that really makes you think about what's important. At 91, he deserves a celebration.

My husband and sons
My husband is a great dad too--he's there for our three sons in multiple capacities. As this picture to the left shows, the boys adore him. My brother-in-law has also been a terrific dad who has inspired his children's interest in countless domains as well as led them on many an adventure with my sister, and my nephew, brothers-in-laws, brothers, so many cousins, and friends are devoted dads as well who love their children and go to any length to support the best of who they are.

So, on this Father's Day 2021, there will be a hike, a good meal, and some camaraderie. I'm glad they've set aside a day to celebrate such an important role. Happy Father's Day!
