I said no to an opportunity that was attractive to me today. Ordinarily I would say yes to that opportunity, but I know that saying no is part of achieving your goals. If you say yes to all opportunities, you muddy the path towards achieving your top priorities. The more you are focused on what it is that you really want to do and achieve, the better able you are to say no to attractive opportunities outside of that realm.
The urge to divert your attention from your main goals is especially great when goals are tough to reach, but a key component of goal setting and achievement is focus--you don't want to lose focus. Of course, that focus depends on definition too--the better your goal is defined, the easier it is to stay the course. Similarly the rationale for achieving the goal has to be meaningful and valuable too--superficial goals will be less easy to achieve because their value is less.
Once you set your goals for good reasons, stick to that path, and be willing to say no to opportunities that get in the goal's way. Onward.
