Learning: The privacy factor

I wanted to learn something new and I needed an expert to teach me. I pondered the experts available, and chose the one who offered the greatest privacy. I didn't want to learn this in a public setting because I was shy about my challenges in that area--I knew the learning would be sensitive for me for many varied reasons.

As I embarked on this private learning journey with a few good experts, I was amazed at how much I enjoyed the learning journey. The experts knew what they were talking about and teaching me, and I clearly didn't know about that--I was truly learning in a positive, comfortable, friendly, and personal way.

As I continued my learning I thought back to the tough learning many children encounter in school and the fact that we didn't talk a lot about the need for privacy when it came to some learning endeavor that was particularly challenging and sensitive. I wish I had thought more about that as an educator. In the days ahead as I embark on both teaching and learning, I'll consider the privacy factor more. Onward.
