Multiple perspectives

It's amazing to sit back and listen to a number of people describe the same circumstance, object, or event. Most likely everyone will see the same thing in a variety of ways. This does not mean one person is right and another wrong, but simply that our experiences in life promote a variety of interpretations about same events.

How should we deal with this?

I thought about this today as I sat down with my son to discuss summer plans and the year ahead. Obviously my son at 21 and me, at a much greater age, will see the world a bit differently. I listened to his take on things as we planned ahead and worked together related to some mutual goals.

I believe it is wise to take multiple perspectives seriously and inform your opinion based on the perspectives of many. It's good to recognize both the limitations and promise of your singular perspective. None of us can see from all points of view, but all of us have life experiences that are worthy which make our perspectives valuable too.

So, in summary, it's good to get together to talk about things. It's good to weight the pros and cons as well as the many perspectives that exist when making decisions and plans with others. To understand that rarely to never does one person have the monopoly on what is right and good, and typically it's the teamwork that lends itself to the best course of action is, to me, the best perspective to have and the right course of action. Do you agree?
