Our capacity to make beautiful and good

Sometimes we may get mired in that which is not so good, and when that happens, we forget about our capacity to make good. As I visited my parents today, I was reminded of that when I looked out into their garden. Beautiful roses were about to bloom everywhere. I cut a few and added them to an empty vase that sat on my mom's dining room table--a table covered by her mom's crocheted tablecloth. The beauty of the display as well as the beautiful scent brightened up the room and will certainly bring my parents and their visitors pleasure. Flowers are beautiful in their habitat, but when picked and displayed away from that habitat it is sometimes easier to notice just how magnificent the blooms are.

In so many ways everyday we have the opportunity to make beautiful and good with our actions, words, creations, and ideas--too often we forget about that capacity or we think that making beautiful and good has to be some big-deal endeavor. But no, making beautiful and good can be as simple as arranging a few beautiful flowers, a smile on your face, a nice lunch or even a pat on the back.

So, when possible, focus on making beautiful and good rather than all the muddled messes we find ourselves mired in. We can do this.
