Sticking to a good pattern

Sometimes your mind wands to undermine your efforts to stick to a good pattern. Even when you've done the good work of figuring out what works and what will help you reach the place you want to be, your mind can obstruct those efforts. That's when self-coaching helps a lot--rather than give into your mind's way, you coach yourself to dismiss the temptations to do the wrong thing at play.

Why does this happen? When does this happen?

Mostly, the will to obstruct your good work occurs when you are tired or faced with an uncomfortable or stressful challenge. When you're mindful, you can pinpoint a challenge like this and coach yourself out of it. Recently that happened to me--after a stressful event, I wanted to disband the good work I am committed to. I lost focus overcome by the stress at hand. Yet, I gave myself time and good self-coaching and worked through it.

Some not-so-good patterns are embedded in all of us for all kinds of reasons. These patterns rise to the surface when we are weak, stressed, tired, or compromised in any way--that's when we have to take a personal time-out to regain our focus, recommit to the good living patterns we've adopted, and reach for the worthy goals and objectives we've identified. We can do this.
