Shunning is a painful choice and greatly harmful to others. Yet, is there a place for shunning in society?
Trump was somewhat shunned recently for wearing wrinkled pants that looked extra puffy and backwards. Snopes reports that the pants were worn correctly. Is making fun of a man's pants, shunning? Does Trump who hatefully has acted against the good will of almost everyone deserve this?
When you are shunned by a group, it is extremely painful, yet you have to think deeply about why you are shunned--what is creating that experience.
A woman once told me how she and her grandparents were shunned in their Chinese village since her grandparents were outspoken against the political leaders at the time. She said it was a very lonely and painful time. I suppose they were shunned because their neighbors were afraid of the repercussions they would receive if they spoke to these activists.
Some who have not been vaccinated for COVID-19 have been shunned by friends, neighbors, and family members. Is this right or wrong? Does shunning increase their likelihood of getting vaccinated?
In general, to shun someone is not a positive action, but instead a hurtful, hateful action. Yet, there may be instances where shunning is the right thing to do--I'm not sure about that. What do you think?
