Poor leadership can have disastrous effects. Poor leadership can perpetuate lies, oppress, and lead people away from the mission of an organization or group. It is good to be aware of this and to take time to reflect on your own leadership and the leadership of others with questions like these:
- Does the leader know me and lead me in ways that are positive?
- As a leader, do I look out for people's well being in holistic ways?
- As a leader, am I willing to to admit when I don't know an answer or when I make a mistake?
- Do the leaders you work to keep the mission at the center of the work you do together?
- Is the leader all talk and no action or does the leader's words and actions match?
We are all leaders in places great and small, and how we lead matters? The way we use words, our actions, and the way we develop and grow makes a big difference with regard to who and how we lead. I'm thinking about this today.
