Tough goals demand focus

An instructor gave me a tough goal. The instructor is an expert in her field, and research shows me that the goal she set for me is just right. The challenge is that the goal is not a simple one to meet. Instead it is a goal that requires focus, new learning, and change. As with most tough goals in my life, it takes me several weeks to change my mindset to embrace the new ways that will help me meet the goal. In many ways, this kind of goal attainment requires me to make space in the weekly schedule for attention to the goal. Fortunately the week ahead gives me the time and place to make a deeper commitment to this good goal, and today I'll plot the path towards a strong step forward.

I heard many stories this week about goal struggles in varied areas of life with multiple people this week. In most cases, where the struggle was greatest, people weren't willing to make the time needed to focus on the goal. They also were not willing to listen to the experts--people in the know related to the goals they set. I also found myself a bit stubborn with regard to the instructor's expertise. How could this be true?, I found myself thinking as she relayed the goal to me. Yet, as I researched the goal, I realized that her expertise was solid and well founded. It's worth my while to follow her expert direction.

On the other hand, a friend of mine who has set a lofty goal, is making good progress because he set aside the time and got the coaching needed to achieve his goal. He has had to miss some good times to make space for his goal attainment, and that is exactly what he's done. He's an inspiration to me.

Tough goals demand focus and time. You have to make space for these goals and get the help you need to achieve them if that's important to you. Onward.
