What knocks you off track

When we set goals, we are likely knowcked off track now and then on our way to achieving those goals. What knocks you off track?

I thought about this today because yesterday while involved in an all-consuming creative activity, I was knocked off track when it came to some priority goals. Why?

The creative task took a full mind. It was a bit of a daunting task as it was one of those limitless creative endeavors where you have many choices about next steps. I was consumed and didn't budge from the task for hours thus negating some of my other priorities. So, deep, limitless creative activity can knowck me off track when it comes to some goals.

Social engagements have the potential of knocking me off track too if I don't plan for those occasions well. When you attend a social event, you're typically not in charge and have to navigate many people and novel situations. At times like these, you can be swayed from the demeanor, goals, focus you hope to have. Visualizing an event beforehand, asking questions about the event so you know what to expect, and good planning can help you stay the course during a social event.

Strong emotions may also push you off track. When we have strong emotions, we may not have the attention or discipline for goals that we've set. Instead the emotions may take over. Simple mantras related to your goals can help you stay the course of your goals while attending to the strong emotions and situations that caused those emotions.

Listing our goals with detail and reviewing that detail regularly can help to solidify our path to goal attainment. Good planning can help us navigate all the challenges we face with regard to meeting those goals. And of course, it is essential that the goals we choose are true to who we are and meaningful enough to deserve such attention. Onward.
