Another failure on the road to achieving my goals

Hard tasks take many iterations until we get it right. Of course, it is good to celebrate the small wins along the way, but when the big goal is elusive, that's frustrating. Sometimes, what we think is the big goal is actually not the real crux of the situation, and as we iterate again and again, it may be that the true goal reveals itself along the way.

How can we streamline our path to success with new practice and goals? What can we do?

Map it out

It's good to take time to map out what appears to be the ideal path to goal attainment. You will have to update that map regularly, but having a map helps. At times, it's best to start with the end point and work backwards.

Chart the successes and errors

It is good to chart the successes and errors along the way. For example on a big goal I'm working towards, I keep making the same error time and again. Though I try different strategies, there is one area where I am repeatedly not successful. Simply identifying a repeated error can help you to find the right information and supports to remedy the situation. Charting the successes helps you to know where you are well directed and well informed about the situation. Figuring out good, consistent assessment strategies can help. For example, a simple smile may be an assessment of a job well done.

Be a good team member

This can be one of the most difficult aspects of goal attainment. Rarely can we achieve meaningful goals all by ourselves, and to successfully work with others means choosing the right team and finding out ways to successfully work with that team. This can be particularly tough if your goal is in a new or uncharted territory where you are figuring it out as you go along. It's much easier to attain a goal with a team that's already set up with the information, strategies, and staging for that goal success.

I must say that I both enjoy and get frustrated when it comes to challenging goals. I love where good goal setting, teamwork, and goal attainment take you in life, but it can be very frustrating figuring out how to achieve those goals you have. Onward.
