As a child, I often heard the refrain, "Bite your tongue," which meant don't say what you are thinking. Recently I did bite my tongue when I saw an acquaintance do something that I thought was ill-directed. I took a wait and see attitude since the action, though seemingly ill-intended, would not cause anyone harm. So I waited and watched, and guess what, the action was solidly positive and right on for that individual. I was so glad that I didn't speak up and instead bit my tongue.
So much of what we do in life will not be understood by others because they don't walk in our shoes, and similarly so much of what others do will be difficult for us to understand. Each individual's life, lifeways, and choices are unique, and we have to be very careful about passing judgement related to what they do. Instead, it's good to be an apt listener, observer, and support rather than a ready, unknowing critic. Onward.
