Completing tough jobs with success

Tough jobs and tough events in life may tempt us to give into less than healthy life choices. The overwhelming weight of tough jobs make us seek solace, comfort, escape. Yet, it does us no good to give into that temptation. Instead, we need to do the following:

Revisit the reason why you're willing to do the tough job

Most of us do tough jobs for good reason. We may believe in the tough job's objective or perhaps the pay we earn helps us to support our family. We may realize that the job is evidence of an imperfect world, yet we're not willing to give up because we believe in the importance of the job.

Make the job easier

Typically there's an easier way to do a tough job. Look around you at others who are doing that job and watch how they are navigating the job steps. If you do that, you'll probably learn some tips that make the job easier.

Give yourself a healthy reward for completing the task

Rather than giving into unhealthy comforts after or while doing the tough job, promise yourself a healthy reward once the job is done. Perhaps you'll watch a favorite show, read a good book, take yourself out to a healthy lunch or dinner, or go to the gym and exercise to your favorite music. Whatever you choose make it enticing and healthy.

Make the tough jobs part of a reasonable routine

You're more likely to complete tough jobs if you make those jobs part of your regular routine.

Advocate for conditions that make tough jobs more reasonable

Join others to advocate for better supports to eliminate the harsh and unreasonable conditions of tough jobs. Making the work healthy, reasonable and just is always a good aim.

Most of us face tough jobs in our lives. We choose those jobs because we believe in some aspects of those jobs and know those jobs are important to our overall lives. We can do these tough jobs and we can do them well if we navigate the terrirory carefully.
