Prior to COVID there was nothing I liked more than going out to dinner with my family. I enjoyed trying new foods in a new setting, but most of all I enjoyed our banter and camaraderie as we sat together in all kinds of restaurants during one special event after another. Then COVID hit, and the threat of the virus kept family members away from one another. In many ways, it was a lonely time--I really missed the camaraderie, laughter, and joy of our shared dinners out and at home.
Now, though COVID still lurks, the vaccine has given us a bit of comfort to be together again, and for the first time we are recreating those good times together. While lots of fun, it also feels strange since the world has certainly changed since COVID. It seems like people are more wary of one another and get togethers. Many of us carry our masks ready to put them on when we're in crowded outdoor and indoor places. Few want to risk contracting the deadly virus.
Many have reconsidered what and who makes a good time, and this reconsideration has altered good times somewhat. Personal finances have changed too. Some have gained greatly via investments during the pandemic while others have faced struggle via job losses, unemployment, and health-related life changes.
To be out again, however, makes me look at the world anew and think about the good times ahead--times when we'll gather to celebrate, share a meal, or adventure together.
