The news has been particularly bad lately. With fires raging, the effects of devastating storms, the spread of the Delta variant, the worrisome withdrawal from Afghanistan, greater public violence and disrespect, and more, what is a person to do?
First of all, it is important to consider the fact that there will always be bad news--that's the way of the world. Also, there are many ways to look at and react to bad news.
Raging fires is a wake-up call that we must rethink the way we live and who we support. To protect our planet we have to collaborate with peoples around the globe to live in ways that best protect our planet and our lives.
The withdrawal from Afghanistan clearly demonstrates the struggle and devastation this too-long war has been and continues to be. We have to look at all we've done, all we are doing, and all that we will do in the future to act in peaceful, humane ways to support the good people of that country, and to do this we have to work with countries around the world. We have to move away from using violence as a means of making change--we can do better.
We have to ready communities far and near for the terror of natural disasters. We can be ready for such events, but that will take concerted planning and good collaborative effort.
The harmful, dangerous displays of public violence and disrespect tear at the foundation of our good lives. We have to boost our respect and care for one another in ways that matter.
What can we do?
- Choose effective, hard working, ethical, honest, collaborative leaders. Don't be fooled by self-serving, science illiterate, hateful, bigoted propagandists like Trump, Cruz, Hawley, Greene, Abbott, DeSantis, and more. Those men work against the best interests of most people.
- Do what you can to boost respect, love, care, and collaboration in your family lives and community.
- Stay informed--study, read, and follow the good research and work of experts in their fields.
- Take care of yourself and others. Live healthy lives, advocate for positive, healthy, peaceful living, and work against the dehumanizing activity and events.
- Find the joy in life--share that joy.
