Seeing a monster and solving complex problems

Long ago, I saw a monster in the horizon. That monster was the result of some not-so-good activity I witnessed, activity that I feared would lead to monster-like events later on. And yes, those monster-like events occurred not to my surprise, but to my dismay. When we see the signs of impending doom, it naturally frightens us and puts us on guard. No one wants bad things to happen, and sometimes there's a clear and likely trail to monster-like events. What can we do to stop the worst scenario from occuring?

Trust your instincts

I learned from a wise counselor once to trust my instincts. If we fear a bad event, we need to trust our instincts and do what we can to prevent that bad event.

Seek counsel

Seek the support of those in the know. Even in the most unusual of circumstances, there are likely those who understand the situation and can help you to know what to do. Sometimes finding those experts takes more time than others.

Do what you can

Complex problems are not easily solved, and there typically is not one way to solve a problem like that. Instead, complex problems require a number of varied steps to make the situation better, and you have to be cognizant of the small wins.

Work with a team

We typically can't manage a complex situaiton on our own, but instead complex situations profit from teamwork. Like findng knowing experts, it may take some time to find a good team to work with particularly if the problem is unusual or rare in any way.

Stay true to good living and your values

To exchange your good living and good values to solve a complex problem will only make the problem greater. It's important to find ways to stay true to good living and your values as you solve the problem. To exchange one for the other is to exasperate the problem and/or make new problems.

Take it step by step

There's a hope that big, complex problems can be solved quickly, but instead, the truth is that complex problems require a step-by-step approach. Take it one step at a time.
