Do we choose what feels good rather than what is truly good?

A friend told me about a women whose position was not renewed. All that I heard about this woman over time was sensitive, caring, deep, hard working, and loving. I wondered why she would be treated with such disrespect, and the only reason I could come up with is that her honest, thoughtful approach was not a feel good approach, but instead a hard working, progressive, challenging approach. Did people work against her because she was honest, intelligent, thoughtful, and challenging--was she too hard for them to comprehend and withstand?

In American culture today, we do see a significant amount of people choosing what's easy and feel good versus what is challenging, but good for us. Have we become weak when it comes to the hard work related to sacrifice, challenge, and patience? Do we choose feel good over what's right and good?

What do you think?
