Last night I successfully and confidently completed a few tasks that were excruitatingly difficult just a few months ago. I entered this activity believing it was natural and easy. I didn't give myself permission to realize that the tasks were new and daunting. My ability to complete the tasks successfully was weak at the start. I was frustrated. Looking back, I should have acknowledged the novelty of the tasks and given myself the time and space I needed to learn to complete the tasks well. Now months later and so much better at the tasks, I realize the stress and need for learning with new tasks.
We almost have to say to ourselves, "This task/effort is new--I will need time, space, support to learn how to do this and to do it well." I will take this lesson ahead with me. Onward.
