What's your security blanket?

When I see people holding on to an idea, object, story or habit tightly without regard for whether that is still relevant, helpful or positive, I think of Charles Shultz' character, Linus, who held tightly to his blanket all the time.

Today, I thought of that as a friend shared information related to his blanket which is a practice that may be irrelevant, but unharmful, to good living. I also recently encountered another individual who has many blankets that are tightly held myths--stories that hold little truth, but stories that create a foundation for his life. Like my friend's blanket, I'm not sure if the stories are good or bad, but I know they are not harmful or that important at this point.

What blankets do we hold on to? Is this good or bad? Will we always hold those dear to us, or will we, in time, replace them with new blankets. Something to think about.
