Donald Trump and his cronies opened the flood gates to American anger, incivility, bigotry, hate and violence. Through their grandstanding, verbage, lack of manners, rage, propaganda and lies, they affirmed and energized the worst of humanity--the angry, me-first, irresponsible hatred that exists.
Just yesterday, I watched a young man in a big truck slowly move through a beautiful little town with flags carrying hateful expletives as well as the American flag. It was clear that the young man was looking for a fight because of his slow speed and angry words. He was truly a Trumpian.
Trump, like Hitler, made it okay for errant individuals to shower their hate, rage, vandalism and violence on others. I still ache for the innocent people at the Walmart in El Paso who were massacred by a young man inspired by Trump's hateful language. I think of Heather Heyer often who lost her life, in part, due to Trump's passivity and clear support for White supremacists in Charlottesville. Would George Floyd be alive today if Trump had not energized the White supremacist movement? And of course, I am so sad about the lost lives, injuries, terrorism and vandalism during the evident Trump team led domestic assault on The Capitol on January 6th.
Trump, like Hitler and other violent leaders throughout time, energized hate, bigotry, incivility, vandalism and violence. He and his self-serving, sociopathetic cronies continue to do the same as they prop up their power, privilege, pleasure, and profit--they are dangerous people who do not care about the collective good, but instead gain their power through manipulative propaganda, harm and hurt.
Anger is not good for America. Instead we have to find ways to motivate the good we're all capable of to build the best possible country that affords good living for all. We can do that.
