Goal posts

When it comes to goal attainment, we all have goal posts. Those are those periodic stopping points when we assess our goal's progress. I landed at one of those goal posts today and my assessment definitely demonstrates progress, but not as much progress as I expected. I've come to realize that's a natural place for me as my dreams always outweigh what I actually do, but I can't let that get me down or discouraged. At this goal post, I'll celebrate the progress, and then I'll revise the program as I reach for the next goal post. I enjoy goal setting, and the work it takes to reach those goals.

What progress did I make so far?

I've revised my routines and mindset in positive ways--that's good. Thanks to some expert coaching and good support, I've been able to learn new ways to achieve the goals I'm working towards. That knowledge has been very helpful. The expert coaching has been invaluable.

I've learned a lot about myself during this leg of the goal work. Because I had adequate time for this work, I was able to reflect effectively. That was a key ingredient to the process.

Additionally, I've become more realistic about the goal and the time it takes to achieve valuable goals--it takes time to reach goals that are meaningful and valuable to you.

What will the next goal post be, and how will I rewrite the program to reach that goal post?

The next goal leg of the goal work will continue to focus on revising routines to make sure that I'm doing the work I want to do regularly--the more I can make a healthy, positive routine, a natural part of my life, the more able I'll be to reach the goals I've set. It's our good work every day that moves us in the direction of who we want to be and what we want to achieve.

I'll make the next goal post my birthday. No matter where I am in life or who I'm with, I always celebrate my birthday by doing whatever I want. This year I'll plan an enjoyable outdoor event in a beautiful venue. Hopefully I'll get to celebrate with some of the people I love most. It will be a simple affair, but I hope that the outdoor adventure will include some challenge such as a nice, woodsy cross country ski adventure or an outdoor hike with a beautiful vista. I'll have fun in the meantime researching possible locales and getting myself ready for that adventure. I'll likely build in some time for a hot cup of coffee, writing and reflection too.

Is it good to live life moving from one goal post to another? I'm not sure if that works for everyone, but for me I love the challenge and growth that mindset brings to life. Onward.
