Hard work

For many of us, there is a natural tendency to avoid hard work. Sometimes we ignore, procrastinate and worry about this work more than do it. That's a big waste of time.

I've got some tough jobs to do--jobs that I'm not that good at and jobs that find me awkward, weak and unfocused. If these jobs are so hard, why do I want to do them? I want to do these jobs because I know that they are good for me and good for others--if I complete these jobs, I'll have greater capacity to live the life I want, a life that's energized in ways that give me greater ability to love and care for others in meaningful, helpful ways.

What is the best way to tackle tough jobs?

Make those jobs part of your regular routine

Making time for those jobs daily helps you to make the tough jobs a natural part of your routine. Also scheduling those jobs for your most-energized times of the day helps too.

Find support for the hard work

Find people, places and events that help you to do the hard work of life. I remember way back in high school when I finally realized that studying with friends at the local college library truly inspired by ability and interest in getting my homework done--this was the kind of place, people and even that helped me do the difficult academic work.

We all have hard work to do, and that hard work is different for each of us, but to tackle the hard jobs in life truly empowers us and makes us better for ourselves and others. We can do this.
