Without any thought of what it will take to complete the task, a boss continued to give orders. Aching from the physical and emotional weight of the task, the worker grew frustrated. "How can she expect me to keep going," the worker whispered to herself, "She would work me into the ground if she could as she demonstrates no care or value for who I am or what I do." This put the worker in a tough position, what could she do, she thought.
The worker was invested in the task--it was meaningful to her, but her enthusiasm for the job was growing weak since it was almost impossible to keep the momentum up with such a self-consumed boss who did not care at all about her welfare. While the worker knew it was good work, she ultimately decided to pull back and look for something else. Clearly she was being taken advantage of, and the more she succumbed to the poor treatment, the worse it would get. Plus the result of the bad treatment was starting to spill over into other aspects of her life--good life elements that the worker did not want to lose.
It did not have to be an all or nothing proposition. She could do some work, but not all of it. Clearly the boss would not find anyone else who would be pushed around as the worker had been. She and the boss would never see eye to eye.
