Nooks and crannies

My Great Aunt Mary and Uncle Joe had a wonderful home with multiple nooks and crannies. I wish I bought that house from them. At the time, the price was too high and the house was far away from my job, but looking back it was a magical home.

One room buried halfway in the ground had many windows that faced the sunlight. There were many prisms in that room that spread rainbows on the walls and ceiling. They used that room as a reading room. There was a back staircase that led to the upstairs and a number of other cozy spaces throughout the house.

I love visiting and staying at homes with cozy nooks and crannies as well as welcoming open spaces. In those homes you can gather with a crowd, and also find a quiet corner to read, write, draw or reflect.

We hold wonderful creative power as a people, but too often we settle for less than what's possible--creating wonderful spaces falls within that creative realm.
