Tough goals

Over time, I've witnessed a lot of people striving to achieve tough goals. Typically these tough goals are a one-step-forward-two-steps-backwards effort. Tough goals are difficult to reach. How can we better dissect the challenge of these challenging goals?

Recognize the challenge

It's easy to deny that a tough challenge exists. Human nature often puts us in a position of denying those long held challenges that stand in the way of the dreams and hopes we have for our lives and the lives of others. Yet, denying the challenge, does no one any good--to meet a tough challenge, you first have to recognize the challenge that it is.

Get support

It is mostly impossible to reach those tough goals on your own--most people who reach those really big, hard-to-reach goals, get expert help. One friend I know who reached a really tough goal signed on to expert help on an almost daily basis--that daily support has helped my friend to reach an incredible goal. He is testament that we can reach those goals and that to reach those goals takes tremendous dedication and expert help.

Set the stage for success

Set the life stage with objects and schedules that support your goal achievement--rid your life stage of the events, objects, mindsets and schedules that obstruct your goal achievement.

Live as you hope to be

Even if you haven't reached that goal, live as if you have reached that goal--adopt that mindset and action as that will take you to the place you want to be.

Celebrate the small wins

Acknowledge the successes you've gained.

Be kind and compassionate to yourself and others

Most of us are striving for one or more tough goals--it's not easy and we have to be compassionate and supportive to one another with challenges such as these.

Striving to achieve meaningful goals is a good, but not easy, life way--a life way worth our energy and focus. Onward.
