Recognizing that I can't layer most old ways onto this new chapter of life, I have begun trying out new endeavors. Yesterday I got up the courage to try something I'm not very good at. Right away I told the instructor that I was new at this and not very good. She was very supportive and offered me a few tips to make the challenge easier. Then other members of the class arrived with smiles and supportive comments. As the class began and continued, I was using positive self coaching the whole time with phrases such as I can do this, just hang in there, and of course, it will be difficult at first. As I participated I was inspired and motivated by the other class members who exhibited great warmth and skill at the task. I was so happy that I stayed with it and will definitely try this class again in the days ahead.
Similar to the revelation a few months ago that it is critical to get expert help when you're trying to achieve a goal that evades you time and again, the revelation that I have to try new activities in this new chapter of life is just as important. Both of these revelations are so simple and straightforward, but both hit me like rocket science since neither was natural for me.
So similar to adventuring in another country, I'll adventure here at home with some expert help and new endeavors in the weeks ahead in hopes of reaching some lifelong goals, meeting and spending time with good people, staying positive and contributing to the greater sphere of life in ways that matter.
Life always offers us new opportunity if we're willing to make the changes needed to seize that positivity. Onward.
