When watching or reading the national/world news one can feel very small. Those with substantial dollars and no conscience wield their their power dangerously in every corner of our global society. These hateful, self-serving bigots like Trump and his many Republican cronies act as a destructive wall to progress, good living and humanity. How can one small person like me stand up to this barrage of evil--what can I do?
Stay positive
Negativity and powerlessness gets us nowhere. We have to stay positive and do what we can.
Include positive action for self and others in your regular routine
Create a routine that includes regular positive action for self and others. For example, I will spend time daily reading Randall Kennedy's new book, Say it Loud, to learn more about how to counter the White supremacy that dangerously blocks humanity and better living in the United States and beyond. That is a positive step forward. I will include other actions that promote the good in my weekly routine too.
Do not stay silent in the face of hatred, bigotry, destruction, and inhumanity
Recently I blocked a few people on social media due to their hateful rhetoric--that is one way to mitigate the hateful speak and actions that exist. Better yet, be willing to respectfully and calmly speak up when people share thoughts and actions that are hateful, bigoted and hurtful towards others. We must counter prejudice and hate in every instance that it occurs. And we also have to be open minded to those who challenge our words and efforts too.
Contribute to good causes
For those of us with limited extra cash, it is frustrating to receive request after request for dollars. Those endless requests also make you feel small and insignificant, yet when you take the time to sit down and consider your budget, you may find a few dollars to contribute to causes and people that really make a difference. It is possible that when you take the time to audit your expenses, you will find places where you can better spend your dollars and time to promote the greater good.
Be discerning, choose wisely
As you live your life, be discerning and choose wisely. Live a life that promotes your own good as well as the good of others. Don't just rely on same-old, same-old routines, but instead update your living in ways that promote betterment for yourself and others.
Good work happens one step at a time and that is one direction we can take to better our own lives and our nation and world too. Onward.
