Sometimes we will decide that a decision another makes is uacceptable and reason to let go of the friendship. A decision like this is not made lightly and is a painful choice to make, but when we think about who we are and what we believe in, we can't accept decisions others make that are harmful and hurtful to others. Too often in history, people have turned a blind eye towards inhumane actions, beliefs and mindsets--acceptance of these deadly behaviors and attitudes has a domino effect that harms many. If we shun such behavior when it is less harmful, we have a better chance of stopping a deadly tide of inhumanity. I think of the horrible mass murders and genocide of the past and wonder if those tides of inhumanity would have been stopped if people were unwilling to accept the bigotry, hate, violence and disrespect when it first began.
