It was a cheerful, happy Thanksgiving this year, and today as I think about the day's festivities, I want to capture what happened so I can look back on this good celebration in the years to come. Every holiday every year will be somewhat different. There's almost always the potential for good cheer and camaraderie, and as you get older, there are always some bittersweet moments as well.
I'll begin with the bittersweet moments. I was unable to celebrate with my parents due to my mom's illness. I wish it could be like old times when my vivacious mom full of pep talking, laughing, cooking, serving, and enjoying our many friends and family members, but after nine good decades, her energy and physicality are greatly limited, and the ways we traditionally celebrated the holidays are no longer possible for her.
On the better side is the fact that our family is filled with my mom's vivacious grandchildren and their many loved ones and relations. The young people bring a lot of happiness and good energy to the celebrations. In addition, they contributed in wonderful ways as well by bringing along good food, games and more.
Specifically our holiday included the traditional hike, appetizers, a good meal, lots of storytelling, conversation and games. A good time was had by all. May traditions like this continue. Onward.
