After four dreadful, inhumane, hateful years with Donald Trump as President, I could not be happier that we now have a President and Vice President who are models of dignity, compassion, care and good service to people.
No public official will be perfect as the job to serve people well is superhuman, but there are so many reasons why Biden and Harris are doing a tremendous job one year into their term--so many reasons.
They don't take trump bait
The Trump team baits people all the time--they do that to shift the narrative to their self-serving agenda to prop up their personal wealth, power, privilege, pleasure and protection. Harris and Biden do not take Trump bait, instead they are focused on what is right and good for the people and the planet.
Dignified entry into leadership
Like no modern leaders, Biden and Harris were not able to engage in a peaceful transfer of power. Instead, Trump would not share vital national/international information, entertain the new President and Vice President or encourage his base to welcome Harris and Biden in a peaceful, positive way for the good of the country. Instead Trump and his cronies led a deadly domestic terror insurrection at the Capitol that obstructed justice, vandalized, threatened, harmed and killed people. Further, Trump spread one falsehood after another about the election results never conceding, after countless contestations, that it was a fair election. Biden could have become angry at Trump's errant, dangerous, destructive ways, but instead he kept his focus on the good of the country and leading us through a dignified exchange of power on his behalf.
Super experienced and hard working team
Biden and Harris chose a terrific team of experienced, hard working, intelligent public servants. This is so much better than Trump's team of self-serving friends and family members willing to do anything Trump asked them to do to. They spread propaganda, misinformation and lies in order to prop up their personal profit, privilege, pleasure, protection and power. These self-servers were a terrible leadership team who did little to nothing for anyone but themselves throughout Trump's presidency. Instead, Biden focused on choosing an experienced, diverse, dedicated team representing multiple cultures, races, religions and geographical locations. The government is working again thanks to Biden choosing a super team.
Fighting COVID
From the start, Trump used COVID-19 to prop up his power and personal gain rather than to combat the virus and protect the health of the American people. Trump's one foolhardy and self-serving comment and action after another put too many people in harm's way--we lost a lot of lives due to Trump's ignorant, me-first ways. Instead, as soon as Biden took office, he made fighting the pandemic his first job. By choosing a strong team, respecting the public health and science experts, and trusting the science, he made sure that vaccinations and appropriate mask mandates were utilized across the nation to keep people safe. He didn't become angry, but instead he has been zealous about promoting vaccination and safe public health habits to end the grasp this dangerous and deadly pandemic has had on every aspect of our lives.
Ended war in Afghanistan
Biden and his team ended the war. It wasn't perfect, but what end to a war has been perfect. From what I've read, there were less casualties to the end of this war than others. And I am sorry for everyone of those casualties--war is a terrible thing. The war went on for too long--there were too many American lives damaged and ended by that war. As a military mom, I am so glad that we are no longer fighting in Afghanistan, but I do believe we have to increase our attention on diplomatic ways to help the people of that country as well as protect our country from errant, hateful, evil terrorism at home and abroad.
Domestic terror alert
Just today, Vice President Harris spoke about how she and the President are on guard with regard to domestic terror threats. In my opinion, the greatest domestic terror threat comes from the Trump GOP team who have proved themselves to be deadly, costly domestic terrorists since when Trump GOP stormed the Capitol they cost our country lives, time, potential and lots and lots and lots of money due to medical bills, lost time, repairing all the vandalism, funeral bills, costs related to all the lawyering, court time and jail time after the fact and the great costs of greater law enforcement and other protections to protect us all from future Trumpian domestic terror events. I'm glad that Biden and Harris are taking domestic terrorism seriously and working for the public safety.
Infrastructure bill
Trump and Harris worked tirelessly to pass the Infrastructure Bill which will modernize our country in ways that help everyone. For example, many families will be able to access the Internet who were not able to access that before. Bridges and roads will be fixed and we will have access to more cost-saving electric vehicles. Soon they will pass the next part of this bill which will cap day care costs and support service workers more--this will help all of us to live good lives. Rather than get involved in Trump bait that lead our country away from the true solutions to our country's issues and the true promise of what our country can be, Biden and Harris are doing the hard work to make our country better.
Immigration
This is a huge worldwide issue with roots in climate change issues as well past and present oppression by errant leaders and poor government. Biden and Harris have taken a more humane attitude towards this problem--they are not blaming the poor and destitute refugees and immigrants, but instead looking for solutions to this worldwide problem in peaceful, productive ways. Trump simply wanted to build an ugly wall and blame the destitute people. The wall was useless as one can easily dig under, fly over and work around a wall--Trump did it for the sensationalism that worked with his aim to make these poor people a common enemy rather than do the intelligent, complex work of truly looking at all the details related to the worldwide immigration/refugee issue and solving it humanely.
Global relations
Biden met with global leaders with dignity--he was respected. I was proud to be an American again. When Trump worked with global leaders, he was a fool who disregarded our need to work intelligently and respectfully with leaders around the world.
Helping others
Biden and Harris helped to serve people in need for Thanksgiving.
Oil crisis
Biden has asked his leadership team to investigate rising gas prices, and he is also using the country's oil reserves to alleviate the problem to some degree. This shows that Biden and Harris are working to work against corporate greed.
Real people doing the good work, not a reality show
Trump's presidency was a reality show with daily drama to distract the American people from the criminal self-serving behavior of Trump and his cronies. The Biden/Harris administration is an administration of real people with experience, smarts and a will to truly enrich and develop our country in ways that benefit every person and the planet. This is good, and this Thanksgiving I am thankful for the humane, hard working, positive and productive President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and every other lawmaker and leader in the country who is respectfully, humanely and intelligently working to uplift good living today and into the future. These are the kinds of people we need to elect. We can do this.
