The pandemic's ugly hands continue to grab life wringing our well-loved routines and traditions like a wet rag. There's a temptation to give up the fight and let the pandemic win, but I'm not going to do that. Instead, I'm going to continue to follow the smart advice of the experts who are waging battle against this global virus and the heinous self-serving Trumpian propaganda that has been, in part, stalling the win.
So here we are at Christmas and the pandemic is raging as much or more than last year. The good news is that for those of us who are vaccinated, boosted and mask up at large public gatherings, the potential of a deadly case of the virus is slim, but we have to be careful.
So what will I do in the days ahead?
- Avoid events with unvaccinated folks
- Mask up in public spaces with lots of people
- Keep some good social distance at the small events I attend where I'm not sure about people's vaccination status
- Engage in healthy living practices as much as possible
So far, my family, for the most part, has been able to avoid the virus. We've traveled, gone out to eat, and attended social events following CDC safety guidelines. We also got the vaccines, boosters and flu shots as soon as we could. While we know that some contract the virus even when they do everything they can to prevent it, we also know that health is more likely if we follow the sage advice and intelligent directions of worthy physicians and public health officials.
So while the pandemic rages, we'll continue to work towards having a joyful holiday while trying to stay safe from the virus too. Onward.
