Too many elites have lost sight of the small, menial tasks that allow us to do the big, meaningful jobs in life. These elites don't realize the value of daily care, nurturing, respect and good work. Instead they are focused on big money, glamour, sensationalism and privilege. This attitude harms who we are as a people, and takes away from the care and sustenance needed to be a strong, respectful, caring country with opportunity for all.
This sensationalism blinds many from the importance of the work that each of us does to nurture our families, support our neighbors, build loving communities and care for our planet. For the most part, the people pushing this agenda are wealthy white men who are totally lost in their privileged lives and removed from the potential the good people of our country hold for peaceful, promising lives.
How can we change this dangerous, oppressive state of affairs? What can we do?
First, take some time out to think about all the people whose work supports your lifestyle each and every day. The nurses that attend to the ill in your family/community, the teachers that care for the children, the community workers that foster safety and good living in multiple ways, the lawmakers who truly do their jobs with betterment for all in mind, and so many more. Too often, we all overlook the people in our midst that make our daily living standards possible. This oversight is leaving so many Americans out of the good living equation and this is especially affecting our youth who are the future. We can do so much more to build a more loving, respectful, well-mannered, generous country.
We must be discerning about the leaders we choose. Too many leaders in public office waste our hard earned tax-dollars and work to favor only a few rich benefactors rather than most people--these wayward leaders don't care about public safety, education, health care, protecting our natural resources or our good lives. Instead they are focused on their personal pleasure, profit, power, privilege and protection--they are survival-of-the-fittest individuals willing to step on anyone to get what they want. This is deadly for our country and our promise as a people. We can do so much better.
So during this holiday season, make time to recognize, show gratitude to, and support all those who support the strength, respect and care for your community. Lessen the gifts to those who have great wealth and privilege and heighten the gifts to those who work so hard simply to live their daily lives and support their loved ones. Stop and make time to say thank you. Research public leaders who actually do the good work necessary to raise lives and good living. Speak up and contest those people and events that exude oppressive privilege and work to revise those situations for the better.
There's a dangerous level of disrespect in the United States today--this disrespect is hurting our potential as a good people. It's time to turn the tide. What will you do to make better?
