Kitchen update

Often, the kitchen is the hub of any gathering. The warmth, smells and tastes draw people in that direction. The kitchen is also a hobby spot for me as I do enjoy preparing all kinds of foods, and throughout COVID I collected a number of kitchen tools that help a lot when it comes to food preparation. Acknowledging the important role that the kitchen plays has me desiring to update that space to make it easier to use and more welcoming. What will I do?

Cull the collection

Over the years, I've collected a good number of dishes, pans, utensils and more. Now it's time to cull the collection by keeping the best, most useful supplies and either storing or giving away the extras. I may store some in boxes marked "entertaining" and take out those boxes when we're having a big crowd.

Rethink the arrangement

Since our kitchen is small, when we entertain, we use every inch of space. With that in mind, I want to rethink where I place things and create the following spaces:

  • Cooking pans: spot for the best pans that I use often
  • Baking sheets: a place for the sheet pans, racks and roasting pans
  • Drinks: a space that can serve as a bar when we entertain complete with glasses, drink equipment
  • Foods: Shelves and fridge for food
  • Dishes: a space for everyday dishes and serving dishes
  • Kitchen cleaning supplies: a space under the sink for this
  • Coffee mugs: space for coffee mugs
Paint and replace

In time, we'll likely paint the walls and replace some of the kitchen equipment, but we're not ready for that yet.

Updating home spaces to make them easier to use and more welcoming to be in is a good new year focus. Beginning with a plan like this helps a lot. Onward.
