Social media and Internet choices

Social media has been around for a long time now. I became more fully involved in these mediums beginning in 2010 so I've been involved heavily for a good ten years and now it's time to reconsider how I use social media, email and other Internet/smart phone venues.

Twitter

Over the past 10+ years I've collected a terrific group of follows on Twitter--I like what these follows have to say because their words/images inform me, support me, teach me and challenge me too. In general, I follow someone on Twitter if I want to know about what they do and what they think. In many ways, my follows are sources of inspiration, good ideas and positive connections. When people post pornography, distasteful posts/images, hateful/bigoted language, or violence, I typically report and block those indivduals or groups.

I tweet all kinds of ideas from random wonderings to daily agenda to commitments to questions and more. I use Twitter as a sounding board. In the days ahead, I'll rethink my own use of Twitter and may revise that approach a bit.

Blogging

I blog a lot. I blog about daily events great and small and use my blog to share information, ask questions and contemplate life's events, people and places. My blog, in many ways, tells my story and I like being able to go back and look at life events after the fact or years later as that gives me perspective. Also when I have something worth sharing or something someone is looking for, I can usually retrieve that idea, story or quandary easily from my blog. I'll continue to blog, but like Twitter, i may refine the way I blog in the months ahead.

Email

My email, in many ways, has become a vessel for junk mail. I did delete almost every email on my account so now I can easily see how much junk email I get a day. I want to elimiante that as much as possible and use my email mostly for correspondence that's deeper and more personal than a text or tweet.

Instagram

I've yet to use Instagram much mostly because I simply don't want to have to manage another social media thread.

Pinterest

I use that a bit, but not much. I find Pinterest a bit klunky, but I may return to that in the days ahead as I organize my many collections of recipes, projects, party ideas and more.

Safety

I do try to follow safety protocols as much as possible to keep any information I have safe from hackers.

Shopping

Sometimes I shop via the Internet, and I want to be more discerning about that by shopping with fewer than more companies--I want to identify companies with integrity, good products, and top notch customer service and safety.

In some ways, our lives have become our own personal businesses as we navigate countless mediums online to complete personal business. I have more to think about in this regard including YouTube collections, the apps I use and more. I'll continue to think on this in the days ahead.
