The holidays are a time to show appreciation

It may be overwhelming to show appreciation for the many people who help you day in and day out, but it is necessary. The holidays are a time to show appreciation to all those people who lift you up with their service and hard work day after day--these are the letter carriers, paper devlivery persons, hair stylists, caretakers and more.

As an educator, the cards, homemade goodies, and small gifts were always a boost at the holidays. The expense of the gift never mattered, and as I told the students, homemade cards were always my favorite presents. Yet, if you're a person of means, it is important to show appreciation with decent gifts for the many who serve your life--some whose income may be much less than yours.

I thought of this today as I made a mental list of the people who have truly supported my family and me this year--good people who generously gave of their time, talent and dedication.

The holidays are a time to celebrate with your loved ones, and also a time to show appreciation to the many who support your good life.
