When do we throw our energy in directions that don't really matter? Why do we do that?
In the new year, I want to ask myself the question, Does this really matter?, before I devote energy to issues that call for my attention, and when issues don't really matter, I'll step back rather than use valuable energy. In the new year, I've already committed my energy to some important matters, but I'll stay flexible enough so that I've got some extra energy for important, valuable issues that arise.
Too often we use up good energy for efforts that don't matter, or worse yet, issues that are negative. For example, recently a conversation included a lot of errant, negative information--information that was directed in ways that hurt and harm life rather than help and enrich life. I made a decision not to partake in that conversation or conversations like that. There was no need to counter the discussion as it was going nowhere, but there was also no need to engage in that conversation because I don't want to be part of conversations or efforts that take people down, spread misinformation, or forward negativity in any way. I'll steer clear of that source for now as there are too many positive ways to move.
I want to move in the direction of what really matters--efforts and talk that forward the good. Onward.
