Why do you do what you do?

When you drill down to why you do what you do, you usually do a better job. That kind of analysis helps you to rid your actions of the cobwebs of outdated practice and mindset that exist, and instead replace that with the essence of why you are doing what you are doing.

I thought of this recently as I prepared for a somewhat routine event, yet an event I hold dear. What is the essence of that event? At it's core, the event is meant to bring people who share a long history together to celebrate our connections, offer comfort to one another and continue a camaraderie that has proved helpful, positive and energizing over time. To create this experience, it's important to make the event comfortable, relaxed, fun and welcoming.

With another routine event, one I don't always look forward to, the essence is all about being as healthy as possible--keeping the body strong and ready to do what you want to do. A commitment to that activity allows me to enjoy desired aspects of life with greater good energy and happiness.

It's always important to rethink the routine activities we engage in to make sure there's good reason for engaging in those activities, and when we do that, we generally do a better job with each of those tasks. Onward.
