How do we achieve the goals we set?
Visualize
First, visualizing our future helps us to set the goals. These questions can help with the needed visualization:
- Who do I want to be in one year, two years, five years, ten years?
- If I could have anything or be anything, what would I have and/or be?
Rationalize
Once you have an image of where you are headed, provide a rationale for that image. You're unlikely to meet your goals if you don't believe in the rationale you have for becoming that person or gaining those objectives. Why is that goal right for you? Writing out your rationalize will help you to clearly value your goals.
Goal Pathway
Working backwards from goal attainment, what are the steps you have to take to meet your goal. As you think of the steps, consider these actions:
- daily routine
- new learning
- the goal environment--do you have what you need to achieve the goal
- positive support
- roadblocks
List your objectives clearly, then turn those objectives into questions
To translate your goals into questions you can ask yourself those questions each morning to help you achieve those goals. For example, if your goal is read one book a week, your question might be, Did I read for two hours today? or When will I fit in my two hours of reading today?
Assessment
Measuring and assessing your goal achievement via charts, techwear and more can help you guage your success as well as revise your efforts so that you are more successful. Assessment also may lead you to refine the goals you are working for.
A good goal process definitely helps you to reach your goals. Onward.
