Adventures ahead

A hint of spring air has me thinking about the adventures I'd like to partake in during the months ahead. There are so many wonderful, natural places nearby to explore so it's time to gather the hiking gear, backpacks, tent and bikes for some multi-day adventures. What will we have to do to ensure that we engage in these adventures more often than not?

As I think of this, there's always that dilemma of overplanning versus underplanning. If you don't plan well you often end up with less people and less-nice accommodations, meals and activities, but if you overplan you run the risk of loosing out on the great excitement of serendipity and surprise as well as simply jumping in your car on a great weather day to hike or bike. As with all things in life, there's a happy medium between the two. With that in mind, our days ahead will be a mix of planned and spontaneous events--I'll keep a running list of great places to explore for fair weather days and collaborate with family members to plan events that everyone wants to take part in.

So as I think ahead to the adventures possible, here's the short list fo what I'd like to do:

  • Lots of biking on great trails, and perhaps some mountain biking too
  • Great local hiking in woods, forests, beaches and small mountains
  • Perhaps a larger mountain hike--we'll see
  • Swimming and boating at local waterholes and ocean coves
  • Camping in some remote, beautiful forests and woods
The months ahead will mainly be months of local, outdoor low key adventures. Now it's time to get physically ready for those events. Onward.
