Have you dipped into a funk now and then? What causes that state of mind when you're simply off kilter? For me, this is sometimes caused by the fact that I don't give myself time to catch up after a physically/emotionally taxing event or series of events. At times, what turns out to be taxing may be quite ordinary so I may not realize the event was actually taxing and then not give myself the catch-up time I need.
Our bodies send us clear messages if we're ready to listen--typically when we're taxed our bodies and minds demand down time--a chance to relax, catch up and renew. It is important that we listen to and respond to those messages.
Funks will happen now and then to all of us and our loved ones too. It's good to have a checklist to consult when you enter a funk so you can get yourself back on track. Obviously if you can't get back on track, the first step should be a visit to a doctor to rule out any medical source and get the help or referral you need.
What's on the checklist?
- Did you engage in any overly taxing events recently?
- Did you give yourself ample time to catch up, rest, get some good nutrition and relaxation after the event?
- Is the taxing event(s), the kind you should avoid in the future or the kind of event you can manage better in the future?
- Did you let your loved ones know that you need some extra time and space?
- How can you get back on a good routine sooner than later?
