Last year around this time we had a family emergency. My mom had a stroke. We were catapulted into a new world of medical care. Now a year later, the situation while still heart wrenching is a lot better. We learned a lot about what it takes to care well for a loved one who is ill and there's a good routine in place complete with loving caretakers and what it takes to create a warm and welcoming home. This is good.
I write about this to remind myself that while emergencies are so troubling, frightening and worrisome, there is life after the emergency. With good collaboration, attention, support and care, we find our way to better places.
None of us wish for emergencies of any kind, but those emergencies do happen, and we have to realize that we have the capacity to move beyond the trauma of the moment. Onward.
