In so many ways, the game of Scrabble is a metaphor for life. The game teaches you many life lessons and one of those lessons is to slowdown. Recently I was ready for a good play. I didn't want my opponent to take my spot, and as soon as my opponent moved into another spot, I made the play without even considering my opponent's move. That was a big mistake because my opponent actually opened up an even better play for me--a play I missed because I was moving too quickly and not taking account of what was happening minute to minute. The lesson learned is to s l o w d o w n.
I had a similar event with a friend recently. She was telling a story and I was waiting to share my thoughts. Yet I was in such a hurry to share my thoughts that I missed the end of my friend's story--an end that impacted my thougths and response hence my already prepared response was not as timely or sensitive as it could be. Instead, as with the Scrabble play, I should have been a keen observer and listener rather than simply waiting to make my move or share my response. Again, the lesson learned is to s l o w d o w n.
When we move too quickly, we do miss the finer details of life--details that deepen and better our connections, work, and overall lifestyle. We can apply this slowing down to all aspects of our life as we seek betterment. When we move too quickly, we are more apt to err and miss out. Onward.
