You can smell spring in the air in Massachusetts today. Even though the ground is still covered with snow, the brightness and spring smell reminds that spring is around the corner. What does this mean for my life and activity?
First, while spring smells and brightness brings happiness, the reality of the carnage in Ukraine dulls that light. I keep thinking about what I can do to end the pain and suffering of the everyday people involved--people on both sides of the battle who are losing their lives, families, good health--for what? I had when evil leaders great and small waste people's time, lives, good living and communities. I want the world to work against this in every corner. How can we do this?
For starters, we have to do what we can to rid our own lives and our communities of evil that exists--we have to promote good living, not the opposite. At every turn and with every word and act, everyone of us has to work for the common good--this is critical. Then we have to advocate for and support best possible leadership who will promote the common good in the important work they do and decisions they make. We can not rid the world of evil by snapping our fingers, but we can continue to do everything we can to promote peace, justice, happiness, and service in all that we do.
So, with this sad backdrop, how can we live in peaceful, positive, humane ways this spring--what can we do to support better living?
Be on the lookout for ways to contribute to help those displaced, injured and harmed during this war.
Find ways to support good leadership in the United States and beyond. Contribute to good candidates, serve on local committees, volunteer and take care of your own family and loved ones.
I feel so privileged to be able to focus on loving my family, creating a warm/welcoming home, working to be healthy and promoting family happiness--these are good aims, and goals that are clearly the goals of privilege as we move ahead in our country which is at peace right now. Onward.
