That "left on an island alone" feeling

Have you ever felt like you've been left on an island alone? That happens when you're left with an issue and there's no one to be found to support what needs to happen. It's a pivotal point where you have to assess if the issue is worth it. You wonder, why doesn't anyone else care about this, and should I continue to care and act for betterment or not? This is what that "left on an island alone" feeling is like.

So having experienced this alone-on-an-island feeling relative to an issue lately, I have to make a choice whether I'll continue to pursue the effort or not. Is it worth it?

The answer is yes, the issue is definitely worth the energy it deserves. So, the next step is to figure out how to initially go it alone and eventually gain a new team of enthusiastic, engaged teammates to continue the effort.

The first step is to stop relying on those who are clearly disinterested in the issue--to keep knocking on their door when they've refused the outreach time and again is a waste of time. Why do we do that? Why do we continue to seek solutions from sources that are clearly dead ends? Don't do it.

The next step is to think about what matters and what would define success in the situation.

After that, figure out a path to that success vision--do what you can to make it happen in positive, proactive ways, and ways that garner the cooperation of other like-minded folks.

Eventually you won't feel like you've been left on an island alone anymore and that will be a lot better. Onward.
