Recently due to a number of life circumstances including caring for my nonagenarian parents, I've been exploring government websites and realizing that there is a lot of good information and supports there.
Good government can enrich your life if you make the time to find out what the government provides, how to access that, and how to advocate for more supports as well.
The objective of government should be to serve the people, ALL the people, and by serving the people, good government should look for the opportunities to elevate good living in a myriad of ways.
Currently, I am an advocate for government that does the following:
- preserves and protects our natural lands, plants, animals, waterways and air
- supports high quality, modern, just public education
- supports accessible, quality, affordable health care (including dental care and mental health care) for all
- promotes safe, inclusive, modern public transportation
- promotes prevention of health and other problems via a dynamic public health system
- provides significant opportunities for healthy recreation and the arts via public spaces, activities, and events.
- works with leaders across the globe to solve mutual problems such as problems related to migration, climate change, poverty and hunger
- greens our world with renewable energies
- keeps people's personal power in check with just regulations, taxation, and laws
- fosters a government for the people by the people with fair voting laws/access, just taxation, and rules and regulations that regulate government in fair, just ways
- fosters humane, progressive innovation and invention aimed at uplifting good living for all
- sensible gun and other safety laws and regulations that foster safe, caring communities
Good government fosters a sense of community and care for one another. When government is done right, we all prosper in humane, beneficial ways. When government is done wrong, many suffer.
For government to work, we all have to be involved. Our involvement includes making sure that we know what government is doing and using our time, energy, resources, voice and votes to advocate for what government should do to uplift our lives and the lives of our communities. Good government demands that we hold those who abuse rules and regulations for their own gain alone without care or concern for the common good.
It is important to understand what your government is doing and how you can access that work to benefit your own life and the lives around you. As I reviewed the many government websites today, I was amazed at what's offered by way of information and supports related to the many categories of living well I researched.
Don't underestimate the good that government is doing in your community, and do what you can to foster the best possible government, a government that enriches and elevates the quality of life for ALL.
