Peace and Love in a Violent World

Like many, I hate to hear about the violence, hatred, bigotry, harm and hurt that exists in this world. Life is difficult enough without adding senseless violence, harm and death to the equation. Why do some in our world today spread hate, divide, death and harm? How can we stop that?

The role you play

First, we have to ask ourselves when and where we contribute to hate, harm, divide or hurt. As I thought about this, I thought about the broken relationships I've had related to Trumpism. I had tough talks with a few friends who follow Trump as if he were a god or savior. I made a decision not to engage with those people as long as they support Trump's evil, hateful, dishonest, deadly ways. I miss these friends and relatives dearly, but as long as we accept people's allegiance to people or actions that greatly harm others, the more that behavior and allegiance will occur. I tried many ways to counter this before making a break, but none of those ways were successful. We simply can't tolerate those who promote hate and harm, and we can't tolerate those mindsets or behaviors in ourselves either. We have to check ourselves regularly and rid ourselves of actions and mindsets that hurt others.

The people and actions you commit to

To become involved with people or events that promote hate, hurt or harm, is to promote those vicious, inhumane actions. Stay clear of the evil out there.

Work for change

We can make change in our lives that leads to greater good, however when we want to make greater change related to the larger world, it's best to join groups who are working for change in positive, promising ways. Find ways to contribute to the greater good via reputable, positive agencies and organizations.

Spirituality

Build a spiritual life that provides you with the lens, communion, confidence and energy to contribute to the greater good.

Observe and learn from those around you

People all around you will teach you how to promote greater peace and love. Be attuned, listen, watch, ask questions and follow their leads towards to living and loving more and better.

No one person can dramatically rid the world of all the pain and suffering, but each of us have significant roles to play in this regard.
