We simply have to look at the fiasco Putin has created for Russians and Ukrainians with this senseless, cruel, destructive war--a war that is destroying innocent lives and loving communities. Putin is not building better, instead he's destroying and for what?
Good government does lead to good living just as bad government disrupts and destroys good living.
In the United States, we have been fortunate to have a government for the people by the people, but lately the Trump propagandist team has wielded its way within the fabric of our government in deadly, hurtful, divisive, hateful ways that has threatened the good government and good living we value in the United States?
What can we do to stop this divisive, destructive Trump team--how can we change direction, hold the terrorists, law breakers, liars and propagandists accountable, and support good leaders that exist now and good leaders to come. What can we do?
Pay attention
A regular, diverse diet of best possible, honest-as-possible news media is a good place to start. Read a newspaper, consult online articles from reputable sources, listen to public radio and other reliable sources and watch informative informational pieces. Know what's going on. Discuss events with friends and family. Figure out the truth of the matter--know whose working for your best life and who is a working against it.
Speak up
Whether via letter writing, conversation, social media or political action, speak up about what's important to you. As much as possible gather reliable evidence, understand the issues, and advocate for what you believe is right and just. As long as you stay silent, others will choose for you.
Vision
Create a vision of the world you are working for. Identify issues that matter a lot to you, learn all about those issues, and get active in making your dreams for a good community, city/town, state, country and world possible. To have a good vision of what you'd like to see happen will energize your advocacy.
Contribute to good leaders, organizations and causes
Find out which organizations, leaders and causes match your vision. Make sure they are honest and reliable. For example, Trump uses a good deal of money he collects for his personal bills and needs rather than the greater good. Similarly, his cronies have been known to collect money for their projects and then pocket the money for their own good. You don't want to donate money or time to corrupt leaders, organizations and causes, but instead you likely want to contribute to people, organizations and causes that are doing the good work possible and making a positive difference.
Deconstruct the systematic racism, outdated myths and wrong ideas woven into your vision
The world has changed a lot. Old myths, racism, and bad ideas are likely embedded in your conscience. In order to deconstruct those harmful notions, you'll have to stay up on the news and revise the bogus information you may have received long ago, information we now know to be dangerous, destructive, untrue and ineffective. Keep on learning and updating what you know. Too many stay stuck in outdated myths, racist ideas and backwards think--don't let that happen to you.
Good government demands that people get involved
For too many for too long, government has been a spectator sport. That's not how good government is meant to work. We all have to find ways to get involved and we have to commit time and energy regularly to that involvement if we want to have good government and be served well by the governments we have.
Good government leads to good lives. Good government demands the contribution and interaction of all people. Find a way to get involved. I'm going to do the same. Onward.
